Usage & Technical
Does STATDOG require WiFi or Cellular Internet at the game?
STATDOG needs an active internet connection (WiFi or cellular data) to capture and sync game data in real time so coaches and stat-takers see up-to-date metrics immediately.
Who takes stats during the game and how long does it take?
Stats are typically captured by designated Stat Pack members (parent volunteers or team managers). We recommend at least three stat takers per game. The app uses intuitive one-tap buttons for “Zero Hassle” capture, keeping data accurate in real time.
Any recommendations on how to divide stat-taking roles?
We recommend the same person who records Shots also records Penalties to keep Extra Man Offense goals accurate. Stat takers most familiar with lacrosse can cover ground balls/turnovers, while other roles can be assigned based on comfort.
What devices and operating systems are supported?
The STATDOG app is web-based and fully responsive, working on modern tablets (recommended for sideline use) and smartphones, whether they run iOS or Android.

Metrics & Data
What is NPC and why is it important?
NPC is Net Possession Contribution. NPC measures a player’s complete positive and negative impact on team possession. It is calculated as Ground Balls – Net Turnovers (TOs–CTOs) – Shots Saved. NPC moves beyond simple scoring to quantify the value of gaining possessions, causing turnovers, and minimizing saved shots. It reveals hidden value in non-scoring contributors and highlights who truly drives possession.
How does STATDOG use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)?
STATDOG translates complex game elements into measurable, actionable KPIs. Beyond goals, we emphasize metrics like Time of Possession, Turnovers, Shots Taken, Shots Allowed, Extra Man Offense Success, Clearing Percentage, and Goalie Save Percentage. These KPIs break the game into manageable pieces so coaches and players can act on them.
