St. Andrew’s School (Middletown, DE)
As a boarding school, St. Andrew’s faced a common logistical hurdle: inconsistent parent availability for volunteer stat taking. Head Coach Chris Bates solved this by creating his “Stat Pack,” tapping four senior students to serve as Team Managers and leverage STATDOG to capture game data.
STATDOG's Impact:
Empowering the Next Generation of Managers
The combination of the students’ existing lacrosse knowledge and STATDOG’s simple, one-finger tap UI resulted in high-quality, real-time statistics. The team finished the season 13-4, ranked #5 in the state of Delaware.
Statistical Certainty for In-Game Coaching

Coach Bates found the data essential for real-time adjustments:
The app gave me real-time data to incorporate into team or player messaging as the game was unfolding. I could see updates mid-quarter if there were trends I wanted to confirm.
The data provided objective insights that drove practice planning:
Uncovering Weaknesses
The app highlighted a “painful reminder” of their low EMO (Extra Man Offense) percentage, requiring focused practice time.
Confirming Contributions:
The level of individual details, particularly the components of Net Possession Contribution (NPC), allowed the staff to analyze the “quiet” stats that truly lead to victory, confirming or denying a player’s total contribution outside of goals and assists.
Final Assessment
It’s one thing to sense or think you know what’s happening in a game, but it’s quite another to have statistical certainty of what is actually going on. I don’t want to coach another game without STATDOG!
